Family Fine Dining at Side Door in Corona Del Mar | @SideDoorCDM #ToddlerTuesday

Fine dining isn't just for childless adults anymore!

Imagine, going to dinner where there are no singing animals and enjoying a delicious gourmet meal and drinks with your young children and no dirty looks.  A time set aside for families where children may run around and be as loud as kids can be.

Side Door, a partner with the 5 Crowns Restaurant in Corona Del Mar got our message!  Parents can't always find a babysitter and would like night outs with the family!  When I got invited to see this paradise for myself, I jumped at the chance.

Tuesday nights are Toddler Tuesdays.  This wonderful patio is reserved for families that worry about their children disrupting other diners.  NO RESERVATION REQUIRED!

So what can you expect from a restaurant that caters to families?  How about fine wine and food?  $5 kids menu that kids love?  DONE!

We started off with artichoke hearts that my daughter and I loved.  Followed by sushi, yes sushi.  I love sushi and the quality was top notch.

My children chose fish and chips for dinner which were quickly gobbled up and approved.  I was happy I had my sushi appetizer because their fish looked so good!

I had chosen the prime rib dinner with mashed potatoes and it was perfectly cooked!

I didn't think that we could eat anymore but SOMEHOW, we found room for dessert.  I love the way the kids sundaes allowed them to make it themselves.  Cheers!

My lemon steam cake was delish!  In fact, I only got a couple bites because my kids took over when I blinked. LOL

I am glad that someone got the clue that pizza and hot dogs are not always what families want.  Kids can be kids and  I loved that about the Side Door and I will be a frequent customer.

Fathers Day Craft for Kids Plus BONUS $100 Orchard Supply Hardware Giveaway | @OrchardSupply #ad

Fathers Day is coming up this weekend and I have a cute craft for the kids to do for Dad!  It is never easy to find the right present and gifts mean so much more when they are homemade from the kids.

Is Dad a cook?  Gardener? Loves to get his hands dirty?  How about a personalized herb garden that can be decorated over and over?  I like this because I can write what is growing on the outside of the can because the tags always get lost.

This craft is a lot of fun and can be a fun gift from the kids under $25!  I was given all of the supplies for it from our local Orchard Supply Hardware store(OSH) and the kids were off.

What do you need?  I was given by OSH the supplies for my two children to create their masterpieces.

  • Empty paint cans ($5.50)
  • Chalkboard Spray paint ($5.99)
  • Herbs (under $5)
  • Soil ($5.99)
  • Chalk ($1)
    • Although, I think chalkboard markers would work better ($12)
  • Paper to cover painting surface
  • Power drill or hammer and Nail
Lay the paper down to prepare to paint the cans.

Drill 3-5 holes into the bottom of the can.  If you do not have a drill, take a hammer and nail to make drainage holes.  If the holes are too big like mine, line the bottom with pebbles to keep the dirt in.

Spray 3 coats of chalkboard paint onto the outside of the cans and let dry thoroughly(usually about 20 minutes in the sun).

Have you children decorate the outside of the can with chalk or write the name of the herb you plan to plant.

Fill the can 1/2 way with soil and place your plant inside and fill the rest to the top.

The kids can put a bow on it and it is done!

Looking for something from Mom?  How about a giftcard?

CELEBRATE: Birthdays with Medieval Times | @MedievalTimes #MTFan #spon

May has been an extremely busy month. With both of my kids birthdays and our Anniversary, we are always at a loss of how to celebrate. What do we all love and can be enjoyed for people of all ages? Medieval Times.

My kids and I are thoroughly horsey people.  I had horses through college and my kids are always asking to go riding.  My husband, not so much.  He says that dirt-bikes cost less.  He might be right but bikes don't greet you with slobbery kisses and a neigh.  Even he couldn't resist the show after being invited to celebrate with them.

We kept Medieval Times a surprise on my daughter's birthday, only telling my son who wanted to dress like one of the knights.  What he didn't know was that he was going to get a birthday surprise too.

As part of the Royal Package, we received a free photo as we walked inside.  Since we love dressing up, we upgraded to costumes for a few dollars more.  I think this is going to be our Christmas card!

I recommend getting there early, especially if you want to "Knight" or "Lady" your surprised guest.  We chose to pass on this but the kids were enthralled by the King performing the ceremony on the lucky participants.

I recommend getting a drink as you walk around the lobby waiting for the doors to open.  I really liked the frozen drinks.  We purchased colorful souvenir goblets to remember the day which gave us discounted drinks.

The Hall of Stallions is a must see!  These majestic boys are gorgeous!  Also, don't forget the Peregrine Falcons that are used in the show as well.

If you have a little one, that is eyeing the souvenir stands, there is plenty to choose from.  My daughter loved this stick unicorn!  She also talked Grandma into buying her a maiden's ribbon head band.

The show was about to start and we were shown to our seats.  I loved how close we were to all the action!  As the King announced all the celebrations, both of my kids were glowing as they heard their names be called as a "knight" and "princess".  They loved the programs that were included in the Royal Package with the banners to cheer our knight on.

Our food arrived and the show began.  We were rooting for the Red Knight and cheered
we did.  In fact, we cheered so loud that my daughter was chosen to receive one of his special flowers!  Could her smile get any bigger?

We enjoyed the amazing horsemen/women and the dressage was spectacular! My favorite was the horse jumping straight up in the air and kicking out! The show held a good story line and it was filled with action. The jousting and relay races were my son's favorites.

After we ate, we were treated to birthday cake and the show finished. I had a happy family that could talk of nothing else for days. They were already planning next years birthdays at Medieval Times.

Celebrating Summer at Ruby's with Shakes | @RubysDiner #RubysSummerShakes

Summer is right around the corner, only 2 more weeks for us!  While the weather hasn't shown us any indication of the heat that summer promises, I am already looking for cool treats.  My family and I were invited to see the new shake menu at Ruby's in Long Beach and I jumped at the chance.

Shakes seem to be a weakness for me.  In fact, while I was pregnant with my 2 kids, that is all I craved.  They need calcium, right?

I had been to this location before although it had been a couple of years although I am not sure why we don't go there more often since it is only 10 minutes from my house.

The atmosphere was family friendly and my kids fit right in.  They loved the car food boxes that they put together for an impromptu demolition derby.

The kids menu was the typical hamburgers and chicken with apple slices, apple sauce or french fries.  The kids ate it all in anticipation of the promised Ruby's shakes!

You probably know about Ruby's great hamburgers but did you know that they carry my favorite salad too?  This Apple Pecan salad was perfect for my (trying)healthier choices.  You can also substitute the salad for your fries if you want a little of both worlds.

It was my daughters birthday the next day and Ruby's helped me to celebrate with an ice-cream sundae for her.  Why, yes, she DID eat all of that ice-cream! YIKES!

The rest of us tried three sample of shakes.

The first sample was Double Dark Chocolate shake.  While I loved it, my son thought the Kit Kat shake that came next was even better.  Love Heath bars?  The last shake had the crumbles topping the shake.

I would say it was a good night all around.  The food and atmosphere was relaxed and reasonably priced.  The kids were able to be kids(within reason) without getting dirty looks and everyone sang happy birthday to my little girl.

Who doesn't love shakes?  Don't forget to keep Ruby's on your radar when you need a sweet treat to cool off or surprise the kids.
