REVIEW: Winter Fest at the OC Fairgrounds | @WinterfestOC #WinterfestOC

With all the choices of fun winter festivals, which ones do you choose?  While we would love to do them all, it's not realistic.  New this year in the OC was a new Winter Carnival at the OC Fair and Event Center and we were invited to check it out.

The first thing that you notice as you walk into the carnival is the largest ornament you have ever seen!  We had to walk inside and take a selfie. :-)

One thing you will notice is that while the area is at the OC Fair Grounds, the carnival is on a much smaller scale but packed with fun things.  You don't feel like you have to walk miles to have fun.

My kids jumped on the opportunity to go snow tubing and spent a good half hour laughing and racing.

There are a few stands with food and hot drinks but not a ton of choices to choose from.

Winter Wonderfest at Discovery Cube | @DiscoveryCubeOC #CubeWinter

Last weekend, I was invited to visit Discovery Cube's newest Holiday exhibits at their new Winter Wonderfest.  It doesn't snow often in Southern California and it was nice to get the kids in warm clothes and have a little snow fun.  Winter Wonderfest opens to the public tomorrow and here is a sneak peak of what you can expect.

There are several slides for kids of all ages.  There are little toddler size slopes all the way up to a 2 story steep slide that will leave you breathless!

A snow area is available to build snowmen and throw a snowball or two.  We loved making snow angels!

If your little ones need a break from the cold, there is a great engineering area where kids can build race tracks for marble racing out of pool noodles and used toys.  What a great idea for a rainy day!

When you have had enough of the wet stuff, be sure to check out the Science of Gingerbread inside the Discovery Cube.  Every year, the museum takes entries for a friendly Gingerbread house competition.  A few of my favorites included Nightmare Before Christmas, Theme Parks, Eiffel Tower and so many more!

Visit the Gingerbread Derby to make your own edible race car.  Do you have scouts in your family?  This is a great dry run for the Pinewood Derby next month.  Fun scouting activity.

My little Sweet Tooth girl was intrigued by the Science of Sugar demonstration.  Her eyes filled with wonder as the scientist created her favorite treats.

Before you leave, there is a great interactive Science of Hotwheels exhibit where kids can prepare for a career in NASCAR pit crew, drivers and racing.

On our way out, we stopped to watch the Science of Snow show where the audience is invited participate with a special "snowfall" ending.

We enjoyed our time at Discovery Cube and we love how there are different exhibits all the time so every time we go, it never gets old.  How better to teach our children about the world except through hands-on science?

Thanks Discovery Cube for a fun winter outing.  We look forward to seeing what you have in the future.

Ramona Bowl Amphitheatre: A Hidden Gem in San Jacinto Valley | @RamonaBowl #Travel

Hemet

Although I have lived in Southern California all my life, I had only heard of San Jacinto Valley and its hidden treasures.  I was fortunate enough to be invited on a press trip to enlighten me on some of the hidden gems only an hour east of Los Angeles.

One of the most memorable places I visited hosts the longest running outdoor plays(The Ramona Pageant) every year.  The Ramona Bowl Amphitheatre sits on the hillside over looking the Gorgeous San Jacinto Valley.

View

What makes this Amphitheatre unlike anything else you have ever known is the natural setting of the Bowl.  The stage is cut into the canyon on the hillside.  The natural acoustics create a setting that brings the story through your soul.  The Ramona Bowl was created in 1923 when the Chamber of Commerce(and later the Ramona Pageant Association) bought up 160 acres in and around the canyon to preserve the Bowl for generations to come.  This also prevented the land from being encroached upon by large companies.

What's New at Stacked? December Tasty Treats | @FoodWellBuilt #FoodWellBuilt #spon

Stacked

December at Stacked brings all new flavors and tasty treats.  You could even say they make "Food Well Built".  Since every month brings new menus, I like to try a variety of food when I am invited to media tastings.

This month's lunch date with my hubby had us starting off with our favorite, Candied Bacon.  This melt in your mouth delicacy is sure to please almost anyone!  I am sure this appetizer alone is the reason I am not a vegetarian.  LOL  Soaked in maple syrup, it is cooked to perfection.

Stacked     Stacked

The second appetizer was the Sweet Chili Wings.  Do you like a sweet and spicy start to your meal or just eating wings on its own?  These were too spicy for my children but hubby and I were fans.  This would make a great Football Party treat.

Review: Disney On Ice Frozen | @DisneyOnIce #Frozen #DisneyOnIce #ad

Disney On Ice Frozen

Everyone by now has seen Disney's Frozen and knows all the lyrics but you have NEVER seen it like this!  Last night my family was invited to review Disney On Ice Frozen at the Staples Center.

There is nothing quite like the magic of seeing the story come to life on ice with the gracefulness of ice-skating.  All of our favorite characters flying across the Staples Center performing the show that many parents would like to forget.  Just kidding.  Although, we could sing the songs in our sleep, the car, house, etc., there is absolutely NOTHING like hearing thousands of people singing it at once!

Disney On Ice Frozen

We got to the beautifully decorated Staples Center a little early and walked around for possible Christmas shopping.  My daughter loved everything at first sight and it was hard to choose just one.  I had an eye on a best friends locket which may or may not have come home with me.

The show was about to start.  I had treated us to McDonalds sundaes and the kids were happy.

6 Reasons You Should Go to Legoland This Weekend | @LegolandCA #LegolandCA

LEGOLAND is only an hour away from Orange County, when was the last time you took the family?  I was fortunate enough to be invited as a LEGOLAND media guest for the lighting ceremony last week.

What is new at LEGOLAND?  Snow Days and Winter Nights have started and with that brings a park full of fun activities.  What are my family's top activities there?

Home School Field Trip Idea: King Tut Exhibit at the Muzeo in Anaheim @Muzeo

Muzeo
Muzeo
While looking at local museums, I realized that while my kids have experience much of science museums, I have not let them experience the fascinating subject of Ancient Egypt. Luckily, the Muzeo helped remedy that.

The MUZEO is a great local museum in Anaheim that helps students of all ages experience the wonders of the world. The latest exhibit, "King Tut: Wonderful Things from the Pharaoh’s Tomb" help me fill the gap in knowledge for my kids.  The items on display were great replica's of riches they could only imagine.  They even were able to ride a camel!

“We are thrilled to host this exhibit. The Egyptian government does not allow the original artifacts to leave the country; most of the more impressive artifacts will never be seen in the U.S. but for replicas of this quality. To have such an expansive collection on display here in Anaheim definitely has that ‘Wow!’ factor,” said Daniel Finley, Executive Director of the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center

This exhibit is open at the MUZEO now through January 24.

ABOUT

Ten years in the making, this dazzling collection of 131 replicas of Tutankhamun’s legendary treasures recreates the richest archaeological find of all time. Carefully recreated by the artisans of the Pharaonic Village in Giza, Egypt and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this collection is larger and more complete than any previous exhibition of original artifacts. Displayed in open glass cases, King Tut includes replicas of the pharaoh’s sacred and personal possessions along with associated artifacts from the period surrounding Tutankhamen’s reign.

While earlier exhibitions have displayed the artifacts according to how they were removed from the tomb, this exhibit groups the artifacts into five different categories, each according to a different aspect of the pharaoh’s life:

  • an Introductory Hall
  • the Hall of the Discovery
  • the Private Pharaoh
  • the Public Pharaoh
  • the Sacred Burial

Creating Smiles for Sick Children with Jared Boxes | @JaredBoxProject

Daisy Troop 1673

Last month, my world was rocked by my friend's 6 year old's diagnosis of Neuroblastoma.  I had just seen him 2 weeks before and he seemed to be a normal healthy child.   He had just started chemo-therapy at Millers Children's Hospital and I was heart-broken for his family.

Explaining to my own 6 year old what had happened to her friend, that he was extremely sick and would be living in the hospital for weeks at a time was hard.  I had hoped to never have to have this type of talk with my children and I looked around and everyone is effected in some way by cancer.

Both of my children are in Scouts and by chance, my daughter's Daisy leader brought up a project that would help our children understand what kids in the hospital go through to live a healthy life.

Have you ever heard of the Jared Box Project?

Treating Your Dogs to Good Health this Season | @VetIQPets #ad

This is a sponsored post.  All thoughts are my own.

Since the holidays have officially begun, it is time to start thinking about gifts.  No, not for your family and friends but your dogs.  Haven't they given you unconditional love and understanding?  With Halloween coming up this week, our dogs want treats too.

VetIQ has provided me with treats that my dogs can't get enough of.  The best part?  They are good for the dogs!  Do your dogs have breath that peels paint?  Yeah, me too!

Minties are a great way to make your dogs feel loved and get a little relief from bad breath.

Minties are made in the US and have only the best US ingredients.
  • Soy Free
  • Gluten Free
  • Corn Free
  • Wheat Free
  • No artificial ingredients/colors
  • No animal by products
  • Helps reduce plaque and tarter with its unique shape
  • 5 Natural breath fresheners
These fun bone shaped treats were a hit in my house and I would be surprised if they weren't in yours.

Do you have an older dog that you worry about?  Is it getting harder for them to get up and move around?
My Brittany isn't very old at 4 but trying to keep up with 1 year old Ozzy is starting to take its toll.  I feel her pain as I hurt most mornings and take awhile to warm up.

Vet IQ has a great tasting(or so my dogs have said) hip and joint formula that not only helps older dogs feel their oats but helps build the foundation for younger dogs to ease into old/er age.

Hip and Joint uses all USA products and have these features:
  • Triple acting formula that targets cartelidge, joints and muscles
  • Wheat free
  • Chicken flavored
  • 500 mg of Glucosamine per chew
  • Omega 3's DHA and EPA help lubricate the joints
  • MSM promotes joint flexibility
  • Contains Creatine to help build muscle
I am excited that VetIQ has made a product that my dogs love and will keep them healthier longer.  I don't know about you but my "children" include my four-legged ones and I want whats best for all of them.

JT Schmid's Home of the 6 Pound Burger! | #Tustin #GigaSavvy

Tustin location

On our quest to find the best food in Southern California, our next stop had us invited to JT Schmid's.  Not only was this a great restaurant with many choices of delicious food but it is also a brewery!

Only thing better than a great meal with friends is a great drink to go with it.

I was invited to review JT Schmid's with a group of friends from Giga Savvy Social Club.

6 pound burger

The first that caught my eye was a HUGE 6 pound(yes I said pound) burger that is meant to be eaten family style.  Bring your family or closest friends and chow down!  One of these "Bigger Badder Asser Burgers" fed about 8 of us generously.

JT Schmids
We sampled a few appetizers such as Avocado Chicken Eggrolls, Jalapeno Mac N Cheese, Peanut Thai Salad and wings.  It was hard to choose between them so I took a bit of all of them.   Although I am a "wing girl" my favorite was the Thai Peanut Salad.

Harvest Beers

As we ordered our drinks, many of us couldn't choose between all of the wonderful Fall Harvest Brews, we chose the Brew Sampler.  The sampler included a Blonde, Amber, IPL, Stout, Hefeweisen, and a Fall Harvest.  My favorite was this Hefeweisen which was light and not hoppy at all.

JT Schmids

Since our tables were eating Family Style, we were able to sample much more than a normal dinner.  More appetizers were brought in.  This "Not Your Mother's Deviled Eggs" were a mixture of:
  • Egg yolks
  • Jalapenos
  • Bacon
  • Sriacha aioli
  • Fried in egg whites
It was a unique bite size treat with a little heat and lots of flavor.

JT Schmids

This Chilean Sea Bass on a bed of spinach and white rice was my favorite dish of the night!  I might be a little partial because I love Sea Bass but the fish literally melted in my mouth.  It was light and I would come back just for this great simple dish.

Want a little stronger flavor?  There is this salmon atop a bed of greens topped with a sweet teriyaki dressing.  I am not a fan of Salmon but my table-mates dug in!

JT Schmids

If you are looking for a little red meat, try this Prime Flat Iron in a white wine demi glaze with Brussel Sprouts over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes.  Even those that don't like brussel sprouts were enjoying them.

I waddled out of the restaurant stuffed.  This night was a great night of food and friends.  I would recommend stopping in the next time you are in Tustin.
