Because liquid nitrogen is so cold, the milk particles stay very small without forming into ice crystals, creating an ultra smooth creamy texture.

    

My kids thought it was a little odd that their ice-cream was "smoking" but they enjoyed playing in the cool fog that escaped the bowl.  They were mesmerized!

With over 40 flavors and 50 toppings, the flavors are almost endless!  Choose bases, mix-ins and toppings and they make it ALL within a couple minutes.  

Unfortunately, because everything is made as you order it, it isn't possible to get samples.  But the upside is that you can experiment and invent new ice-cream flavors that have never been tasted.

One of my favorite things I learned about Creamistry is that you can order it to go and not have to worry about a melted mess when you get it home.  Using Nitrogen, they flash freeze the ice-cream to keep the perfect temperature for a good amount of time.

ARCHERY OUTPOST: Great Indoor Archery Range | @ArcheryOutpost #LosAlamitos

With the Hunger Games movies so popular, Archery has gained momentum in popularity with the next generation.  

I have loved the archery sport since I was a child and finally took re-curved bow lessons in college but as life often does, I hadn't shot an arrow in 15 years.  My husband hunts and started looking into hunting using a compound bow.  Soon our children wanted to learn.  

As I watched my family having a great time at our local outdoor archery range at El Dorado Park, I started to get the itch.  For Christmas I received my first compound bow and it took awhile to get it adjusted properly to my arm length and strength. 

Since archers are on their own at El Dorado Park unless you take a class, I looked elsewhere.  

I discovered the Archery Outpost only 10 minutes from my house and less than 5 minutes from El Dorado Park in Los Alamitos.

The Archery Outpost is an indoor range as opposed to the outdoor El Dorado Park range.  This was great as I was able to practice in all weather.  

I found the Archery Outpost to be a very clean and helpful place.  My first time there, they adjusted my bow and gave me tips on how to improve my aim and consistency.  They had a large selection in supplies, bows, arrows and targets to buy and bows to rent.  

 

Besides enjoying the great sport, I love the camaraderie of the family of archers that frequent the Archery Outpost.  

When I need to get out a little frustration or need a break from the every day grind, I find that putting holes in a piece of paper at 20 yards is very rewarding and satisfying. 

 

 FAQs

• Q: I am a beginner. What do I need to do to shoot on your range? 
• A: All beginners or brand new archers must take our Beginner Safety Class. This is a mandatory class to ensure the safety of all shooters on the range. 
• Q: Can I shoot a crossbow on your range? 
• A: No. In California crossbows are considered a firearm and must be shot on a firearms range. We only allow compound, recurve and longbows on our range. 
• Q: What ages are allowed on your range? 
• A: Shooters must be at least 8 years old in order to shoot. Luckily, archery is the type of sport that you can shoot your whole life! Our eldest member is turning 90!
• Q: Are you an indoor or outdoor range? 
• A: Our range is only indoor. The maximum distance is 20 Yards. 
• Q: Do you rent equipment that can be taken outside your store? 
• A: No. All of our equipment rentals must be used in our range. 
• Q: Do you sell archery equipment? 
• A: Yes! We have a full retail shop that sells all types of bows, arrows, targets and accessories.
• Q: Do you sell/buy used equipment? 
• A: No. It is very risky to sell/buy used equipment because the history of the equipment isn't always fully known. It creates a liability for the shop and we cannot take the risk.
• Q: If I bought my bow elsewhere, will you tune it and teach me how to set it up? 
• A: Yes, but there will be a Basic Setup Fee of $20 for recurves and $40 for compounds. 
• Q: How much does it cost to use your range? 
• A: It is $12 to rent a lane for the whole day if you have your own equipment. It is $25 to rent equipment and a lane for the whole day. 
• Q: Do you have a kids program? 
• A: Yes! We have our Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) class for beginner, intermediate and advanced youth archers. Please see the Rebels JOAD tab for details.

Mimi's Cafe's New Frites Menu | @Mimis_cafe #MimisCafeFritesGrill #French

On Thursday, October 16th, we attended a menu sampling of Mimi's Cafe's new Frites Grill Menu. Featuring five new classic meat and potato combinations, the menu includes Steak Frites, Roasted Chicken & Frites, Grilled Chicken & Frites, Grilled Atlantic Salmon & Frites, and Meyer Lemon Mussels & Frites. 

It took Mimi’s culinary team more than two months in France to perfect the frites recipe. They sampled authentic French frites and talked to local chefs in brasseries, bistros, and Michelin-starred restaurants in Paris, Brittany, and Normandy. The frites are hand-cut, fried-to-order, never frozen, and made with real Russet potatoes.

We were in for a real treat that night. Joining us was Executive Chef Katie Sutton, a graduate of the French Culinary Institute.

“Authentic frites can be found in some independent restaurants in America, but most casual dining concepts still serve bagged, frozen French fries. Unique to Mimi’s, our new frites are made with Russet potatoes grown on a collective of four family farms in Southeastern Idaho that has been growing potatoes since the 1900s.” - Chef Katie Sutton

With the new recipe, the potatoes are thick hand-cut (larger than a half inch), double cooked (first blanched and cooled, then fried to order) which produces frites that are crispy and golden on the outside, and light and fluffy on the inside. Finally, the frites are seasoned with sea salt and fresh herbs.  

 Sutton also created a selection of herb-infused butters to complement the new entrées:

• Steak & Frites: 28-day aged New York strip steak comes with house-made thyme-garlic butter, 
• Grilled Atlantic Salmon & Frites: Grilled Atlantic Salmon comes with lemon-garlic butter and garlic spinach, 
• Roasted Chicken & Frites: Roasted Half Chicken comes with rosemary herbes de Provence butter, and 
• Meyer Lemon Mussels & Frites: Meyer Lemon Mussels comes in a white wine-lemon broth with fresh herbs and garlic crostini. 

They were all delicious, and it is really hard to pick a favorite. If you like fries, you will love French frites! Katie's herb-infused sauces are so good. Wine is also available on the menu for $5 a glass all day, every day! 



Let's not forget about what we had for dessert: Crème Brûlée Cheesecake with a Strawberry Purée.

We also picked up some Huggies Natural Care wipes. Our twins have the most sensitive skin so I like that these are hypoallergenic and fragrance free. I also like that their wipes are thick and safe to use around babies so I use them to wipe down toys and high chairs after their meals. It makes me feel better that I'm not using harsh chemicals especially things that might end up in their mouths. We found them in various designer tubs, refill packs, convenient soft packs, on-the-go-containers, and pop-up tubs.

You might see your local Girl Scout Troops at the grocery stores earlier this year!  No, not for cookies.  Girl Scouts are branching out into a new venture for their Fall Program.  

You can expect to see a wide variety of:

• Nuts
• Chocolates
• Photo keepsakes 
• Magazines

The sales are not just to raise money for the troop activities but to teach our girls the importance of life skills such as:

• Goal setting
• Money management
• Decision making
• People skills
• Business ethics
• Learning how to give back as they donate snacks and nuts to food banks and magazines to the military through the "Care to Share" program.

Girl Scouts in Orange County will begin selling nuts, chocolates, photo keepsakes and magazines door-to-door and online beginning on October 5 and at booth locations throughout Orange County from November 7-16. Customers can choose from twelve varieties of nuts and chocolates, including the new English Butter Toffee and Salsa Mix, or they may order online from a selection of twenty five varieties, including the exclusive Girl Scout tin and new corporate gift tins – perfect for holiday gifts! Customers can order or renew their favorite magazines from over 600 magazine titles (print and digital) at up to 90% off newsstand price, AND customers can create and purchase personalized greeting cards, calendars, photo books and more through the new To Remember This website.

Halloween Cookie Pizza

1 roll (16.5 oz) refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough

½ cup creamy peanut butter

1 cup Halloween colored M&M candies

½ cup Girl Scouts Honey Roasted Peanuts

¼ cup vanilla ready to spread frosting

Heat oven to 350°. Grease 12-inch pizza pan and press dough even in pan to form crust. Bake 16 to18 minutes or until deep golden brown. Cool completely, about 30 minutes. Spread peanut butter over crust. Sprinkle with chocolate candies and peanuts. In small microwave bowl, microwave frosting on High 10 to 15 seconds until thin enough to drizzle. Transfer to small resealable food-storage plastic bag. Cut small hole in 1 corner, drizzle over pizza.
