The Splendiferously  Superific Summer Spectacular Ice-Cream Eating Challenge!

 

Last week I was invited to watch last years ice-cream eating contests winners submit their times and defend their trophies!  We were joined by Allie Kay with KTLA live on air to showcase the contest.

 

This is Farrell's 5th year with Make A Wish Foundation and CHOC!  The proceeds from the entry fees go to help children in need. 

 

CHOCO the bear was there to cheer the contestants on!

This cutie was last years Big and Small Category Champ and is now competing in the Kids Category as he has passed the Big and Small Category to his little sister!

The kids get to learn by doing hands on activities all about the Orange County past.

BABIES: New Baby Penguins at the Aquarium of the Pacific! | @AquariumPacific #Penguins

Recently, I visited the Aquarium of the Pacific to see the 2013 penguin babies up close and personal.  Now I have exciting news to share about the new additions to the penguin family!  

There were new Magellanic Penguin chicks born to first-time parents Kate and Avery and Patsy and Noodles, residents of the Aquarium’s June Keyes Penguin Habitat.

The penguins were born about 2 weeks ago and are being cared for in their nest burrows.  The babies won't be available to see until late summer when they leave their nests.


A little bit about Magellanic Penguins:

Magellanic Penguins are a temperate species native to the coasts of Argentina and Chile in South America. It takes between thirty-eight and forty-three days of incubation before a Magellanic Penguin egg will hatch. The chicks hatch with their eyes closed, and they are able to open their eyes about a week later. Magellanic Penguin parents take turns incubating the eggs on the nest and feeding and raising the chicks after they hatch. The chicks fledge, or replace their downy newborn feathers with water-tight sub-adult feathers, after about ninety days. 

The Aquarium’s penguin chicks are expected to fledge in late August or early September and join the other penguins in the viewable parts of the exhibit in the June Keyes Penguin Habitat. It is also around that time that we may know if they are male or female. In the meantime, the public can help support the penguins at the nonprofit Aquarium of the Pacific through the Adopt an Animal program. Adoptions start at $25 and include various benefits such as a photo of your adopted animal, adoption certificate, invitations to special events, and more. Adopt an Animal is one of the many giving programs at the Aquarium of the Pacific, which is a nonprofit institution that recently earned a 4-out-of-4 score from Charity Navigator for financial health, accountability, and transparency.

GREAT DEALS: Westminster Goodwill is Open w/ Designer Purses & Great Deals! | @OCGoodwill #Westminster #ad

Last week, I attended the Grand Opening of Goodwill's latest store in Westminster.  WOW!  I have been to a lot of Goodwill stores because I love a great deal and this store went above and beyond a good deal!

I got a sneak peak for a half hour before the crowd of 200 people came into the store and then I understood why there were so many people waiting! The quality of the products, purses especially, were mind-blowing!

After the store was officially opened, by the Mayor of Westminster and the OC Goodwill CEO, the crowd converged.  The first item you saw when you entered was this spectacular NEW Huffy woman's cruiser!  I LOVED it!

The first place most of the patrons visited was the purse area.  Why?  Because of the names that jumped out at you such as Louis Vuitton, Juicy Couture, Prada, Coach and more! I had never had the extra cash or the opportunity to purchase a nice purse before and that changed today!  None of the purses I looked at were more than $30!  I have been asked if they are original or knock-offs and I looked close and saw NO fakes.

  

  

Another question I get often is how the donations to Goodwill help?  Do they go to the CEO or back to the community?  I found out that 92% of all sales goes to helping the less fortunate!  I really liked the visuals they had that put the items into perspective.

  

  

There were so many great things to purchase besides purses!  I bought new uniforms for my daughter for the fall, Frozen and Hello Kitty(new in box) toys for a special prize for good behaviors and even a fishing net for $1 for my son!  Though, I must admit my favorite purchase was my new Coach purse!  

There are a lot of reasons to check out your local Goodwill and the new store definitely gives great deals but the main reason why I love shopping there is because it helps the community!  Whether you shop there or donate your unwanted goods, every sale goes to help give someone confidence, job skills and a new start.  

Check out the new store when you can and keep your eyes open for the newest Goodwill Boutique that will be opening in Anaheim in the next month or so!  If you think the deals are great at the Westminster Goodwill, wait until you see what is in store at the Boutique!
