Do you have an outdoorsy child from 7-14 that is looking for a summer camp unlike any other? I discovered a wonderful camp that teaches the kids all about Native American survival skills. The Coast Live Oak School teaches skills that were thought to be mostly forgotten.
Native Skills Camps run from June through August and only allow 10 students per session.
The kids at Coast Live Oak School learn how to build forts, making things with their hands and get the chance to explore creeks, woods and learn all about the outdoors.
Students will be learning to meet basic human needs of shelter, water, fire, and food in simple and practical ways… without using knives or other modern conveniences. Along the way they will be learning how to see the natural world and their relationship to it in a more direct way.
In these hands-on classes the kids will:
-build shelters
-practice awareness skills through games and quests
-learn native and non-native plants
-make tools from natural materials without using metal knives
-explore our local natural ecosystems with reverence and wonder.
All sessions of Native Skills Camp are taught by Mark Hay, with one Assistant Teacher.
