Buccaneer Cove! Our Family Review @BoomersIrvine #BuccCoveIrvine

Driving down the 405 freeway through Irvine, you might have noticed a new structure being built this summer.  Boomers of Irvine has expanded their park to include a good sized water park!

It was finished early this August and I was invited along with other media to check it out.

My family enjoyed many things about the water park.  Here are a few pictures to show you our favorites!

Buccaneer Cove has a large splash pad fun for all ages surrounded by cabana's and lounge chairs.  If it is especially busy, there is a nice grass area to lay towels to sit on.

6 water slides!  All of the slides have no height requirement! I will warn you that 4 of the 6 slides are enclosed tunnels.  The younger children didn't like them as much and stuck to the open topped slides.

If you want a little privacy for a party, you can rent a cabana or two and have hot and cold food served to you.  The food was adorable in its "pirate theme" and was tasty as well.

We ended the day warming up on the mini-golf course.  We got a little lost on the course but had a blast making memories!

I hope you enjoyed our photo journey of the new Buccaneer Cove at the Boomers of Irvine!  My family had so much fun!

I would like to give your family the chance to experience Buccaneer Cove yourself before the water park closes for the winter season at the end of September.

"Hunting" Blue Whales for Photos! @AquariumPacific @HarborBreezeC #LBWhales

Well, my family seem to have fabulous luck going whale watching lately with the crew of the MV Triumphant with Harbor Breeze out of Long Beach!  I would love to show you a few pictures from our recent trip out to see the magnificent Blue Whales and teach you what I learned that day.

On the search for the 2 Blue Whales, "Hook" and "Delta" today out on the MV Triumphant, we saw an abundance of wildlife!   I don't think that we found those particular whales, identified by their flukes.  But there was no lack of wildlife.

Captain Dan Salas did find us 6 Blue Whales, 100 dolphins, Sea Lions, a Mola Mola (that jumped out of the water!), a variety of sea birds and a SHARK!  Just in time for Shark Week!

I learned more about the Blue Whales that I thought I would share.

  • They are the largest animal to EVER inhabit the earth! Larger than ANY dinosaur!
  • Their tongues can be the size of an African Elephant
  • The babies weigh up to 3 tons at birth and gain 200 pounds a day on their Mom's milk that is 50% fat! (Humans milk fat is 2%)
  • Babies are about 25 feet long at BIRTH
  • Blue Whales in the wild( as opposed to captivity?) live to be 80-90 years old
  • The main arteries of the Blue Whale are so large that a small human can swim through them
  • They have been increasingly been hit by large carrier ships entering the shipping ways to the Port and killed
  • Recently, the shipping lanes have been moved to accommodate the migrating pattern of whales to avoid fatalities

I hope you enjoyed the pictures that I took that day.  If you have never been on a whale watching boat, the sight of these magnificent creatures, will take your breath away!  It leaves unforgettable memories in children and sparks a love of the ocean!

If you get sea sick, I recommend bringing medicine or a sea sick patch or bracelet.  Several people got sick today because of the large swells.

Bring a good camera, you won't be disappointed!

Disney Junior Live on Tour!
Pirate and Princess Adventure

ON SALE NOW

Long Beach Terrace Theater, September 21-22
Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, September 27-29
I got notice this week of an event that my kids are going to love!

Do you have little princesses and pirates in your house too?  I don't know about you but I have seen every episode of "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" and "Sophia the First"!
Disney Junior has made our kids favorite shows into an All-New Stage Show!

The love of theatre should start young.  I don't just mean the love of movies but the love of acting.  This new Disney Junior show introduces young fans to the theatre with characters that they already love.  It keeps even the young children enthralled.

In this original storyline, Mickey and Minnie lead the audience on an exciting adventure that will have families rooting for their favorite pirate Jake and Disney's first little girl princess Sofia.
Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate and Princess Adventure begins with a special interactive pre-show featuring the loveable 6-year-old doctor to toys and stuffed animals, Doc McStuffins. Children and their parents will sing “The Check-Up Song” along with Doc as she provides tender love and care.

Audiences will then embark on a journey to the magical world of Enchancia, where Sofia, her step-siblings Amber and James, and the entire kingdom are preparing for the annual friendship festival. Sofia has the honor of delivering the perfect gift to her royal subjects at the celebration, and the one-and-only Cinderella visits the castle to help Sofiain her mission to find just the right present.

The excitement continues when families cast away to Never Land where Jake and his Yo Ho pirate friends Izzy and Cubby are in a race against time to locate a mysterious treasure-filled volcano. Danger, thrills and adventure lurk around every turn when our swashbuckling friends battle Captain Hook for the ultimate prize. Peter Pan makes a special appearance, aiding the team in their heroic quest, and with the help of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust, Jake and his crew fly above the stage in their journey.

In 2012, “Doc McStuffins” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” ranked as cable TV’s Top 2 series for all kids ages 2-5, reaching 46.7 million and 36.5 million unique total viewers, respectively, throughout the year. Launching at the top 2013, “Sofia the First” is cable TV’s #1 series year to date among Kids 2-5 and Girls 2-5, and is the #1 preschool cable TV series in Total Viewers and Women 18-49. Plane Ride with Kids... Disaster or Delightful? Ideas to Try

Next week, my family is embarking on a trip to the beautiful Island of Maui. Most people imagine beautiful beaches, drink in your hand, swimming at the pool type of vacation.

I would love to imagine that kind of vacation too until I realize that I have to get there on a 5 hour plane trip first... with 2 young children!  Will I survive?  Will the other passengers maul me because my ADHD child cannot stop wiggling in his seat or kicking the chair in front of him?

Will my 4 year old stay awake asking a million questions to each and every passenger that surrounds her? Probably.  As parents we worry about our children's happiness but we also worry about being kicked off the plane for unruly children.

We survived our first plane trip to Hawaii 2 years ago.  My children were 2 and 4 at the time and it was a challenge to say the least. Despite the long plane trip with a few dirty looks, we decided to make a return trip to see my father in Kihei.

We took precautions to keep our children busy on the long plane ride and I thought I would share them with others.  Maybe we can all avoid the embarrassment of having children that are...well... acting like kids in an adult world.

We survived our last trip without too many dirty looks and I hope to do the same this time.

What to bring for each child:
  • Individual back packs
  • Change of clothes/sweat shirt or jacket- it can get cold on the plane
  • Favorite blanket/teddy/doll
  • Snacks that are not the norm that they will be excited about
  • Wipes!!!
  • DVD player (you can bring only one but it gets tricky unless they like the same shows)
  • Movies
  • Gum for take off and landing for their ears (you can bring fruit snacks as long it keeps their jaw busy)
  • Spiral notebooks for writing/coloring.  It keeps artwork less messy
  • Twistable crayons for coloring- they don't break easily and last a long time
  • Stickers
  • Books for reading
  • Deck of cards to play
  • My children have Leap Pads and other game systems.  I know its not ideal at home but keep it handy if all else fails
  • You might have a Kindle or Ipad at home that you can pre-load with games as well
  • If you have a special needs child with sensory problems, be sure to bring anything you need to make your child as comfortable as they can
  • Bring headphones for children that don't like loud noises for take off/landing
These are the items you might have thought about already... What about something different?

Envelopes with different small activities or crafts in them that they can pull out through out the flight is a fun and inexpensive way of keeping the children busy.  They anticipate a new unknown and unless they keep asking when they could open the next one, it keeps them relatively quiet.

Small Dollar store toys such as toy soldiers/animals/dolls are a big hit and they can really use their imagination.  Wrap the small toys to make them more interesting.  Dollar stores are also great for crafts.

If you have small boys, draw a race track or have them draw one a piece of paper and they can race cars on the tray in front of them.

My daughter loves makeup... yes I know 4 year olds should not wear makeup but we allow it for playtime/dress-up.  By going to the makeup section of the Dollar store and picking out a lip gloss and eye shadow, I can almost guarantee quiet time.  Have her put makeup on you or her dolls.  You can even draw a picture of a girl on paper and have her put makeup on it.  It is harmless fun and washes off with soap and water.

Small puzzles/games are okay as long as the children are at an age where the pieces don't get thrown or lost easily.

You can also bring a few paper lunch bags and have them make puppets with their crayons and maybe googly eyes with a glue stick.

I hope this helps and I will keep you up to date which worked best on our trip.
