Trail Mixed Memories is a blog about blazing trails from the desert to the sea and everywhere in between with my family. I'm a blogger and a outdoor mom of two kids. I share our activities, reviews, events, and adventures to other families to help get kids off the couch and outdoors. Our family enjoys fishing, hiking, camping, prospecting, geocaching, archery, SCUBA, dirtbike riding and river rafting. I also am an avid outdoor photographer that loves catching that unusual shot!

Meteor Cycle Co. Disneyland Legend Honored @Disneyland #BobGurr #History
You may in your travels through Disneyland come across an old bicycle above the streets of Mainstreet. Did you ever wonder what it meant? Each second window on Mainstreet USA is dedicated to different Disney Legends.
The bicycle is dedicated to retired Imagineer, Robert (Bob) Henry Gurr. He enjoyed tools and working with his hands from a young age. He started designing almost anything that ran on wheels at Disneyland in 1954.
"If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, I probably designed it", he once said.
His most famous work involved working for Walt Disney at Disneyland but as the years went by, he also worked at the other parks as well.
Mr. Gurr has had his hand in designing almost all of the rides at Disneyland! Some of these include, Autopia, Haunted Mansion, Monorail, Submarine Voyager, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. He started working there designing the Autopia vehicles and moved upwards and outwards.
Besides Disneyland, he also worked on the Animatronics for Universal Studio's King Kong Encounter.
He worked for Disney for almost 40 years and became a Disney Legend in 2004.
He was so treasured by Walt Disney that he was invited to join his team at WED Enterprises, today known as Walt Disney Imagineering.
One of his great accomplishments included Disney's first human audio-animatronics, Abraham Lincoln from Great Moments with Abraham Lincoln.
One of his most memorable moments might have been giving Vice President Nixon the very first ride on the Monorail on opening day in 1959.
"The Fast, Faultless and Fadless,” indicates his love of Mountain biking and
although retired, he still consults on projects at the parks.
A man of extreme talents! I can't wait to find out and share more of these Disney Legends! What would Disneyland be like without these unknown creators?

ReplyDeleteEvery motorcycle owner wants a ride that really expresses something about themselves. For mechanically minded riders, this can mean customizing their bike with new parts. For the rest of us, it's all about decals. bike decal
