What a beautiful place!
We arrived the peak day to watch the Perseid Meteor shower and it was HOT! The Perseids always arrive mid August, so you can guarantee that in the desert, it was warm to say the least.
We got to our campground at around 4pm and set up camp. We didn't want to get there in the heat of the day but rather when it had started to cool off a bit. After we set up our tents, we decide to do the easy 2 mile hike to Skull Rock. We brought tons of water to drink and a baby carrier for my 2 year old.
The hike was a blast and the kids loved being pirates! Pretending that the Skull was their own private hideaway. We got back to camp in time for it to cool off and make dinner on the campfire/BBQ that the site provided.
The kids had a great time finding local wildlife and playing on the natural rock formations that created a Mother Nature Made playground.
At last it was time to set up our chairs and look at the skies! What a beautiful display! Each meteor falling was a different color! So BRIGHT! Even thought peak time was at about midnight and later, most of the kids stayed up until about 11 and saw a lot!
We slept as long as the hot sun let us in the morning. We had one other spot we really wanted to do a photo op at. It was a rock climbers delight called Split Rock.
I highly recommend Joshua Tree for viewing the Perseid Meteor shower this August 3rd and 4th! It might be warm but if you arrive late and leave early, you should have a ton of memories for your family to remember for years!
